Pandora FMS is an open source monitoring software under GPL2 able to work with Windows and Linux. After several months of developing and testing and two release canditates (RC1 and RC2) Pandora FMS 3.2 has been published. This version is an update has many performance and usability improvements, furthermore fixes old bugs. Pandora FMS 3.2 is available in a VMware image, RPM packages, DEB packages and of course the source code. Furthermore, now Pandora FMS Administrator Guide has 500 pages and is translated to Spanish, English and as new into Japanese.

Pandora FMS v3.1 final version has been released. This is a major upgrade from 3.0 version and includes a lot of new features. This version has several months of testing done.

This version comes with packages for SUSE, Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS, a CD appliance installer an a VMWare Image and a full detailed (+400pages) administrator guide in PDF (English and Spanish).

Pandora FMS v3.0 RC1 has been released. This is a major upgrade from 2.0 version and includes a lot of new features and a surprising performance boost. This version is a Release-Candidate, this is similar to a beta version, but with months of testing done.

This includes a new installation CD (Software appliance based on OpenSUSE11), an vmware/VirtualBox image, RPM packages, Windows Installer, Source Tarballs and a 360-page user manual in PDF.

eWeek reports that Microsoft’s Silverlight platform will support Ruby client-side scripting, enabling ARAX — or Asynchronous Ruby and XML. Would be cool to have the option to script client-side in something other than Javascript. ‘In essence, using ARAX, Ruby developers would not have to go through the machinations of using something like the RJS (Ruby JavaScript) utility, where they write Ruby code and RJS generates JavaScript code to run on the client, Lam said. “Sure, you could do it that way, but then at some point you might have to add some JavaScript code that adds some custom functionality on the client yourself,” he said. “So there’s always that sense of, ‘Now I’m in another world. And wouldn’t it be nice if I have this utility class I wrote in Ruby…’ Today if I want to use it in the browser I have to port it to JavaScript. Now I can just run it in the browser.

InfoWorld is reporting that on February 12th, Microsoft will roll out Internet Explorer 7 through Windows Server Update Services to all systems - regardless of whether or not the update had been requested previously. The piece also mentions ways to prevent the update from occurring, for sysadmins who do not want to use IE7 on their systems. Microsoft claims that the decision was made due to ’security concerns’
